I don't care if you give your kid soda or not, but you are dead wrong about the apple juice and chocolate milk, so just own it. |
The menu clearly states what comes with the Happy Meal and what the options are AND A SPRITE AIN'T ONE OF THEM. You are either full of sugar, honey, ice tea or this is your first Happy Meal.

Oh wow. Marginal. WHO CARES! |
People who like facts care. |
| This is OP and I don’t care about sugar or any of that at a time of convenience. I’m mostly annoyed at this charge which is a drop in the bucket, but I’m sure makes McDonalds a lot of money. They should let you know it’s an upcharge. That’s all. I didn’t know it was a thing, I thought maybe this particular store was trying to make money by being sneaky. Disregard. |
Well, I would care. Chocolate milk has 9 g of protein that Sprite doesn't have, and it has 25% less sugar than Sprite. Give your kids what you want, but don't say it doesn't matter. |
| But why charge more for the prepackaged milk or juice when it’s well known that the fountain beverages are where these restaurants make their money? I believe it’s something like 2 cents to fill a large cup with Coke. |
| My obgyn did this. .01 for almost every visit. Annoyed me but it was like 10c over the pregnancy. I don’t get it. |
+1 Those differences are not marginal. FWIW, I'm not against soda for my kids when we are out, but there is a difference. |
25% difference? Oh, the horror! |
| McD’s does this to create a new line to enter your drink order that isn’t one of the standard Happy Meal items. It’s as simple as that. |
I am sure somewhere on the menu in tiny print there is some mention of it. But why would you not assume there was an upcharge for choosing something that was not an option. The real ridiculousness is the fact that they bother at all for one cent. But it probably is a law/ rule that they have to add a charge for soda since it is less nutritious. You should be happy it is only one cent. I do not understand your outrage. |
| It’s just a quirk of their Point of Sale system. Soda isn’t an option for kids meals. So they have to use a different key to enter the soda after entering a happy meal with no drink. The system doesn’t let them have $0.00 items, so you pay a penny. |
This is correct and lol @ all this paranoia |
+1 And dont get upset about nobody telling you of the uncharged- first, it's called a substitution fee and, second, you cant expect the teen working the drive thru to know about every particular detail. |
