Yes, and that DCPS kids can't have PE on the fields - all due to DGS poor planning.

I don't have stoddert soccer kids and I am outraged-- these are public venues for all of us to use. In many areas, the only space for play is a turf field. It's appalling.

DC is a city ran by morons who cannot manage the huge resources that get thrown at them by wealthy taxpayers. They knew all along that the turf fields would fail these tests. DPR slept at the wheel for one year, woke up two days ago because recreational soccer was coming to town this weekend, and closed all the fields two days ago until further notice. Here is the scene today at Horace Mann ES (close to where I live): a worker padding the soccer field with green rugs near the goals, the goals surrounded with crime scene tape, and a giant banner warning that there is an "increased risk of injury in the event of a fall (from the sky?) on this field", and "hereby" prohibiting soccer, football, baseball and other sports pending further tests. And then people wonder why Trump gets elected

Stoddert books and pays for those fields for their team and they have dozens and dozens of games and teams that play all over. So for DGS to pull this stunt, and thats what it is, after they know they have already approved a season of reserved games is BS and incompetent

While we are talking about incompetence, DPR closes Wilson pool each February - the final and most important month of HS swimming season.

What's it going to take for DC to at least, I don't know, give a shit about recreation for kids in this city?

For all of the complaints - Fenty helped pivot and get parks and rec at least to a baseline. Wilson pool did had been closed (the wall collapsed) - Upshur had no chairs. The playgrounds across the city were is disrepair.

It frustrated me that his outdoor pool had a heater and Takoma Aquatic Center indoor pool constantly broke down - but where we are is so much better.

That kids at the effected schools cannot use the fields for PE or recess.

And, yes, if your kids participate in a rec league that rentschool fields, then about that too.

Have you checked DPR's twitter?

Palisades is still closed as of stoddert’s 9:30pm announcement. Game cancelled.

A little after 10 they sent an update saying Palisades was open.

The "fluffing*" that the field needed was done on Thursday. It's just hard getting anyone in the city government to respond.

(* yes, if you fail a hardness test you need fluffing).

DPR uses a system called Nixle that you can sign up for to be notified of facilities closings. None of the field closings this week have been on Nixle.
