CDC said they might not have thimerisol-free h1n1 vaccines

The above information is factually incorrect.

Arlington County is not giving flu injections that are formulated with the .5 dosage to children under the age of 36 months. They will only inject children under 36 months with the approved dosage, which is .25 It has nothing to do with thimerosol.

No, you are factually incorrect. I was at the Arlington clinic yesterday and I was turned away because Arlington will not currently inject ANYTHING into ANY children under 36 months, period. The lady speaking to me that WORKS at the clinic told me that they will call me if/when they get the thimerosol free shots, and until they get them, there is nothing they can do. It is fine and dandy for you to try to correct this information, but when the people who are Arlington County employees are saying something different, your statements don't hold a lot of water.

You just proved the point in your own email. Key word being INJECT, which you yourself used. They will not inject because they don't have the injectable form for those under three. They will spray 24 months and up w/o medical conditions. I was at the clinic too and talked to the person who "WORKS" there.

Something is fishy here . . . why have all the other counties that received vaccines managed to provide them to children 6 months-36 months? Every other vac site in the area is able to do it with their shipments, why is Arlington the exception? Even with Fairfax County - they debated for several days about what to do with their shots - give them to school age children ABOVE the age of 5 OR the 6 month-36 month crowd. If their shots can be used with this broad of an age group, why can't Arlington's?

Good question as to why Arlington doesn't have the 35 months and under vax. However, I'm guessing Ffx doesn't have one version to use for a broad age range since the clinic on Saturday is also for pregnant women. My thinking is they have the lower dose version for the little ones and separate doses for adults (pregnant women), but are probably waiting until after the clinic to know what's left for future clinics.

This post is very misleading. Arlington County is not giving children under 36 months any injections, period. I don't know their reasoning behind this, but anyone who tries to bring a child in this age group for an injection will be turned away at the Arlington Clinic.

No, they just don't have a vaccine in the clinic that is suitable for under 2. Flumist can be used for the over 2 crowd. And the regular vaccine can be used for the over three crowd. It's not a thimerosal thing. They are trying to get their hands on supplies.

It is not reasoning. They have not received an acceptable vaccine yet. They want to vaccinate the under 36 month crowd. I believe the 2+ kids can get Flumist.

No, you are making the assumption that they could lower the dosage and use the regular vaccine. They can't because the concentration is wrong. Many people are interpreting this as a thimerosal thing, but it's that there is a separate vaccine approved for use in that age group. The other vaccine simply is not approved for the young children.

Because it is lawmakers/politicians making the decision not scientists and doctors. I doubt Arlington County knows something we don't know.

They know the instructions for the bottles they have say it is not approved for under 36 months. They know that they have not received the bottles that say "For ages 6 months to 36 months" on them. That is what they know that you don't know.

Yes, it is reasoning. Reasoning is when someone with intelligence is presented facts and they make a decision.

The bottom line is Arlington Clinic will not give children under 36 months the vaccine shot at this time. I don't really care why they aren't doing it. All I care about is finding some one that will vaccinate my 2 year old asthmatic son.

This is crazy. People have to see the bottle to believe it's true. Fine. Here is the picture. No Arlington County conspiracy theories:

They need to get that or something else with a label that say that, or they aren't injecting 6 month old - 3 years.

Please stop posting misleading information. People are trying to find vaccines for their children. Flumist CAN NOT be used for the over 2 crowd IF you have pretty much any of the underlying conditions that place you in the high risk categories to begin with. By leaving this out of your post, you are misleading people into thinking 2 year olds can be vaccinated at the Arlington Clinic, which is not true. If your 2 year old has an underlying condition like asthma, they will be turned away.

Fair enough. I expected that parents with respiratory issues already know that, but you are correct.
Anonymous
And I should add other contraindicated conditions (immune, etc.) Parents should check out the Flumist site to see who qualifies.

There are 2 year olds who need to be vaccinated because of an infant in the house (my situation) and they could get it.

Ffx is vaccinating ages 6-36 mo this Saturday. You may want to call to make sure they have shots, not just flumist. GL
