| VLC is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Positioning themselves as the nice guys compared to the asshats at Madlax, Black Wolf (do they even still exist) and DCE. After they take over the market, they’ll get greedy like ever one else. |
| You're wrong. They've been around for a decade and their reputation is outstanding. |
| VLC does have a good rep. But there is a different vibe now - expanding teams/grades, increasingly professional marketing, very active social media. Not saying it’s a bad thing. But clearly a program looking to raise it’s reach and profile and unafraid to battle Madlax and the others to be at the top of the DMV club hill. Hope in the process they don’t lose their good guy, Average joe, doing it for the love of the game and the kids culture that they’ve embraced over the years. |
| Their social media exaggerates and is very boastful. They tried to expand to younger age groups but didn’t have enough interest. Seems a little sketchy to me. |
| I'm not sure what you mean by social media that "exaggerates" or is "very boastful." I just took a look at the Twitter feed. Most of the posts seem to emphasize the family focus of the organization. Sure, other posts point things out like accolades for their players and alums, but it's all pretty fact specific. I'm sure the VLC community appreciates the updates and if it also has the effect of marketing its brand where is the harm in that? |
I believe their 2025 and 2026 teams are new this year, so yes they did have enough interest to start younger teams. |
They already had a 6th grade team, and added a 5th grade team. They tried to add a 4th and 3rd grade team and had tryouts for these grades, and didn't form the teams due to lack of interest. But maybe you already knew this and decided to twist the truth, kind of like their social media does? Every time one of their players commits, VLC uses it as an opportunity to tout its program, which is self serving and tacky. Congratulate the kid and their family, but why go on in the same exact tweet and boast about your recruiting numbers? It comes across as being more concerned about bragging about your program than honoring the kid and their families achievement. This tweet is an example of how they exaggerate and mislead: https://twitter.com/vlclax/status/1011669309251301377 Bragging about a B league championship and about beating teams from multiple states that weekend. If you look at the tourney results, VLC did extremely poorly that weekend in terms of wins and losses. It's purposely misleading. Having team spirit and cheering on your kids is one thing, even for a B league championship, but this is taking it to a tacky level. |
| Why so hot and bothered, PP. Methinks I smell a Cabell. Lol |
Nope. Last season they only had teams for grades 12, 11, 10, 9, and 8. This season they added teams for grades 6 and 7. They had a LOT of kids try out for those teams, so they don't have a problem with lack of interest.
EVERY lacrosse club does this. If you think VLC is "tacky", fine, don't have your kid participate. There are certainly plenty of kids eager to have the spot if your lofty principles (and more likely, your kid not being good enough to make the team) prevent you from letting your kid participate. |
So the 6th grade team that played in HOCO this past Spring in the 2024B division, that didn't exist? Or the 7th grade VLC team that played in HOCO this past Spring was just a mirage as well? Every lacrosse club certainly doesn't make sure to talk about how great they supposedly are every time they're supposedly congratulating a kid. I don't know if VLC itself is tacky, but whoever runs their social media. A prior poster mentioned their "slick" marketing and he/she was on point. |

VLC's instagram is informative, builds team spirit and is fun.
As a parent, I like it. Before my son joined VLC, I reviewed their social media and yes, was impressed by some of the things I was reading, and yes, it helped sell me on VLC. So what? Well done VLC. Any bizarros criticizing this have obvious ulterior motives or severe mental issues or both. Nuff said. |
| Aw gawd. VLC managers must read DCUM. Looks like the criticism of their media which was totally unfair has got them on edge. They’ve tamped down the bragging and are now posting vacay pics and kids next to vending machines. Vending machines! Don’t let the haters get under your skin VLC. You dudes are doing great keeping VLC one of the premier clubs in the us of a. Get back to those brag posts. We love em. |
| Is this only offered once per year? |
| Probably. Follow them on social media if you're interested and ask there. |
