My ring was hidden at DH’s friend’s house for six months. After we got engaged, his friend explained that his gf found it. She assumed it was for her. Even told some people. She finally confronted him when Christmas, New Year’s, Valentines’s, and her Birthday all passed. It was a very difficult conversation.

OP update: It was in fact my ring and he proposed last weekend. He had my son bring it to me in a very sweet, intimate way.

Looking at the ring now, I am absolutely in love with the thought and effort he put into it.
