Beauty and Fashion
| I'm an 8/10, 5'6" and I feel and look like a buffalo. Not technically overweight, but nothing you'd ever want to see in a bathing suit. |
| The last 2 of you are not helpful. Please go away. |
| 5'6" and a size 10 and definitely not "big" but curvy in all the right places. I work out regularly and would be proud to be in a bathing suit. Not everyone is meant to be stick thin and perpetuating that size 10 is a "big girl" is an insult to all women. |
|
I'm 5'2" and a size 10, and no one would look at me and think I'm a giant fat buffalo. Yes, I could stand to lose 10 pounds, which would probably put me at a size 8, but with my build, anything less than that and I'd look ill. Sorry, not everyone is meant to be a size 2.
Now for the helpful (hopefully) part - I've had good luck at Ann Taylor loft. Their petite jeans fit my curves (the curvy fit, obviously), and are the right length (a little on the long side). I also like some of their tops and dresses. |

i think it's hard to universally say some line is good for a size 10. are you a curvy size 10? a stocky size 10? a broad shouldered size 10? big busted size 10?
i think the shape is more important than the size in determining what looks good. |

OP here. My apologies about the size. I am accustomed to being smaller, and YES I am on the shorter side (not taller side). NOT bikini material, if that helps. I would say I am a curvy size 10. I have to add, guys like me way better curvy than when I was thin (skinny)! I have a chest now, which other women hate. I'm NOT looking to dress like a nun. I guess I was looking to appeal to other women with a chest, and what do they wear? I feel blessed to have gained weight, it is a big change for me! |
| I am very very confused - what the heck does height have to do with it? Size 10 would be size 10 in pants (just shorter) and tops (just modified for petite torso length). Why does it matter if you are short or tall?? |
|
It doesn't. I think people are trying to figure out how tall OP is and whether they should be helpful or not. It doesn't make sense, I just think that is what is going on. |
| I think size 10 can look a lot different on someone who is 5'1" and on someone who is 5'11". |
|
It's all about proportion. A 5'10" person has a larger frame than a 5'2" person. The tall person can weigh more and have larger measurements than the short person and still be the same level of thinness.
|
Why do other women hate that you have a chest? WTH? |
| The OP is either a troll or a little odd. |
Hi OP, I was one of the pps who got involved in whether size 10 is fat (not on me, a 5'3" jock) but am now realizing that you may be tired of the rest of us arguing about it. So I just wanted to say that it sounds like you are really happy with where you are now and are looking forward to exploring fashion. That's wonderful! Congratulations and enjoy! |
|
OP here. Thanks to the helpful ones! Not everyone is a troll (PP, you sounded a little paranoid). Thanks for the suggestions of new places to shop. I will try Georgetown and Alexandria. I am really excited. Our society thinks everyone should be stick thin. Now that I am not, I am thrilled to have a body for once in my life. So thanks to the people who are supportive. Sometimes you have to love yourself for who you are. Most of you seem to get this, and I am grateful for your suggestions. If there are any more boutique ideas, keep them coming! Thanks again. |
