Ah sorry I meant high school. |
We have Wilson as a backup but kids get a lot of exposure of other city schools and we have our eye on Walls, Banneker, and McKinley Tech as well. |
| We are hoping our child will get into one of the application high schools and we’ll play the lottery for some of the charters with high schools. |
|
OP here - thanks for the input everyone! For now we are committed to Stokes EEand while we are high on the waitlist for ITS, there is no guarantee that we will get called off the list. I am still on the list for Stokes Brookland so my fingers are crossed! It is certainly refreshing to hear so many families are happy with ITS!
I don't have to make a choice until I get a phone call but here are my considerations. - language immersion (very important) - commute - clear path through middle school with ITS. |
| Do you not consider DCI a strong middle school path? (It's one of the reasons we are happy to be starting at another feeder.) |
| NP: I’ve heard that current feedback on DCI is mixed, but I know so many great, committed families at feeders who plan on DCI. I’m optimistic for it getting better and better every year. We’re starting at a feeder and, assuming it’s a good fit for our kids, plan on DCI for the language immersion through 12th (and for the great commute for us). |
The issue is for Stokes parents is that with the expansion there are not enough slots for every Stokes student starting with the students in Pk3, Pk4 and K for 18-19. Something may work out between now and when those kids reach 6th grade, but there isn't a guarantee anymore. Note- MV will have the same issue starting with its youngest grades in 19-20 when they expand. |
OP - As someone else posted, Stokes EE has not been guaranteed slots into DCI. This would be a no brainer if so. I'm sure something will workout between now and then, but it's still a factor. I've considered sticking with Stokes EE at least for this year, and seeing what happens next year. I've also considered moving closer to EE if it works for my child and we absolutely love it, but would end up in the same position for middle school with most of the middle school options being WOTR. |
It isn't just Stokes EE -- this affects any Stokes (EE or Brookland) student in grades K and below starting this fall. |
| What does ITS stand for? |
Inspired Teaching School |
| Stokes by a long shot. Primarily because you'll stand a good chance of getting in to DCI! By then DCI will have replicated. |
Replicated? Huh? If I were you OP, I’d go with ITS. |
NP. Replicated in charter parlance means opened a new school with the same model. PP believes DCI is going to expand / create a second campus. |
I know what replicate means, I just didn’t know it was a real thing that DCI was going to do it. |
