Apparently you don’t, so move along Other people don’t like being listed as being a religion they are not, being related to people hey are not or having their cell phone and home numbers listed online.

Funny, my 8 yo (!!) was trying to look me up on one of those websites and when busted, told me he got the idea on YouTube and someone said it was a good idea to google oneself once in a while (???)
Funny how kids are tech savvier than us 40-somethings.

My God I am SO OLD and everything is out there about me! Not that is in any way interesting but I hate that it's out there. Annoying.

DP. I could see how having false information about me on these sites could actually work to preserve my privacy so that I'd be better off leaving it up.

So you opt out with your name, email, phone and sometimes other personal info and by just typing this info, it projects out to cyber universe. And on and on it goes.

+1

Those sites want you to correct the info!

Thanks so much! My mom died recently and I googled her to see see if I could get to the online obit. A MyLife page came up complete with a picture of somebody else. Ugh.

Ok, now I officially hate MyLife. I called the number OP helpfully listed (this isn’t your fault, OP). I waited on the queue for 25 minutes, with my phone on speakerphone listening to their sales pitches with a little music. Then I got down to “first in line” — and stayed there for much longer than the queue seemed to move in the previous 20 mins. And then they cut me off. They suck.

Funny - the same thing happened to me around the same time. Since they had no way of knowing why I was calling, I'm going to assume that they just had call center issues around 11:25 this morning. I went ahead with email and got this response

So in order to have info removed, you must provide verification. This verification gives them 100% you are the person listed and therefore they will further sell your 100% verified privacy in the future to the next website broadcasting your details. Never ends.

Just a PSA for those who want to remove their info from these search engines. This article has really useful information on how to get it done. (I spent 20 minutes doing this now tonight instead of posting on DCUM).

How is any of this private information? Remember when the phone book used to have everyone's address and phone number? This has never been considered private.

The phone book never had my religion, age, income, race and relatives' names. And in anycase, mylife.com had much of that information incorrect, so it was bad on two levels.

But your religious affiliation isn't private probably if you are a member of a congregation, got married or had another rite in a specific place of worship. Your relatives names are there based on residences/marriage licenses, custody, etc. I think income is almost always wrong for everyone, so who cares really?
