| I do all my banking with CCB and have for years. I get some good benefits being a Platinum member, slightly higher interest rate, no fees on using competitor ATMs, they are everywhere, so I was hesitant to switch. Plus, switching is a hassle. But, that doesn't mean I am not somewhat shopping around, CCB used to have ATMS and banks in some Safeway's and Giant's but not anymore, and I actaully miss that. If I see a great cd rate or similar benefits elsewhere, I would consider moving. I am not that loyal! |
| I'm going with either ING or PNC to avoid the ATM fees. Chevy Chase forces you to be Platinum to obtain this - the others do not. |
| I'm have CCB Platinum and will be shopping around. For those at USAA, what are the benefits? |

Capital One? NO WAY! Unless of course, you have no problem paying for....... well, never mind for now, just DON'T do it. |

Join a credit union!! I can't believe no one has said this yet! I left Chevy Chase a few years ago and moved over to a credit union and never regretted it for one second. The customer service is great, rates are generally better than anything you would get in a bank, and believe it or not, you can generally find a network ATM near you. (I didn't believe it, but my husband showed me.) You're not a customer at a credit union - you are a member. The owners aren't making jillions of dollars off the interest on your money - you benefit from better interest rates on your accounts and loans..
Many employers provide access to membership in a credit union. As the graduate of a public university in Maryland, I can even join the SECU Credit Union (but I don't live in MD, so I'm not). Many times, a family member can get you in as well - it's really not hard. Good luck! |
| Oh, and (credit union devotee here again) when CCB asked why I was leaving, I explained, and the *branch manager* said he totally understood and could not offer me the same benefits of a credit union. And trust me, I was addicted to those ATMs that are *everywhere*. |
| Another USAA and credit union fan. Personally, I find the customer service at "regular" banks horrible. I LOVE both USAA and the credit union. Regarding ATM fees, i usually use my debit/ATM card at the grocery store and get cash back so I rarely pay ATM fees. |
| I left Chevy Chase in part because it was being acquired by Capital One. My husband and I were choosing between his bank and mine and I would have fought to keep Chevy Chase except that it became Capital One. Capital One stinks. I have a credit card with them and they have the most ridiculous rules and policies. If I ever have a problem with a credit card co, it's Capital One. I didn't want my actual $ under their control. |
|
Yeah, trust me, you don't want Capital One involved in anything! |
|
I am not liking Capital One. Everytime I go to the bank, they ask me a cheesy question "Is there anything we can do to serve you better?" GIVE ME BETTER RATES! DON'T CHANGE THE NAME OF MY BANK! KEEP THE NAME LOCAL!
I will be going to a credit uniton or USAA. |
| Yet another very happy USAA customer here! Sure wish that they had a brick and mortar presence in this area, though. I just had to mail in a check that, because of it's size, couldn't be deposited through the scan-at-home option or through the iphone app. They told me that it may take up to 10 days to process once it arrives in Texas. Grrr. Otherwise, I'm a very satisfied customer and give them lots of business (car loans, credit cards, car insurance, personal loans, checking and savings accounts, IRAs, etc). |

Run, don't walk, from Capitol One! |
