To be perfectly honest, Obama understood history, loved learning, actually did read his security briefings, and he f@#$ed up in Syria just as badly. So I wouldn't use Syria as a showcase of how important it is to be a learned president.

I don't know about Eastern Europe and South Asia, but you couldn't very well point to the pre-Trump's America's foreign policy in the Middle East as a smashing success, now would you. I don't like letting Russia have eastern Ukraine and Crimea--but, isn't that pretty much what they already have done? For the last few years? Wouldn't getting Russian troops out of Syria be a plus? A step in the right direction?

Wouldn't it have been better had the prior administration done something when this first happened?

The problem is that Trump poisoned that position by how he's done everything. I think that's a grim but realistic outcome. But how can any American now see a post taking that position without assuming the post comes from Internet Research Agency?

The prior administration did do something when Russia took Crimea. Also, it's not getting Russian troops out of Syria, it's giving Syria to Russia and getting other troops out of Russia. Possibly.
