DP, hate trump, but I wouldn’t buy a Volvo or a VW. This is a lesson I learned the hard and expensive way.

OP here...thanks to all. Mostly I want a smallish 5 passenger SUV...the brand isn't as important as the safety and some of the tech. We drive regularly 10-15 hours so comfort is key, plus need to park in our garage so no 3rd row.

Thanks for the VW suggestion - last time I checked their's it was overpriced and not very nice, but apparently a lot has changed. We had a suburu and it was a clunker so not really interested in that again.
