https://www.gracecov.org/visit/ourteam/ Head pastor is Champlain of Redskins so a few retired players attend. Church is multi racial but probably 70% black, with quite a few nonblack and biracial families. They also have separate Korean and Spanish services, as those populations have l grown recently. Their kids ministry is top notch, as the pastor believes “the children are the future”. |
| First Congregational UCC Church is a great fit too! Justice seeking, diverse, and very welcoming! - firstuccdc.org |
Former long-time attendee. NCC is NOT liberal. They are non-affirming and don't allow people in LGBT relationships to serve in leadership. (In fact, they have asked people who have come out to step down) They also require their one female teaching pastor to submit to the leadership of male pastors. They make a good pitch for being more progressive when you first visit, but once you get into the internal workings, you find out they are not. |
You know, the Bible makes it clear that all in Christ are brothers and sisters -- "Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all." Colossians 3:11. Making the point that your congregation is non-white is antithetical to the teachings of Christ. The LORD doesn't look on outward appearances, but on the heart. It's an attitude about which a church should repent, not use to market with. |
You are probably right, but the reality is that Sunday mornings are some of the most segregated times. Many churches appeal so much to one demographic the church becomes all white, all black, all Latino. Many churches actively work to become more diverse but it's hard to tell without someone reporting it. |
"We are non-white" is a statement of negation, not of inclusion. It's abhorrent for a Christian congregation to make such a statement. I am absolutely certain that Jesus Christ loves white people. |
I grew up in that cult. Baptists are the literal opposite of liberal. |
Pretty sure the pp meant that her family is non-white, not the congregation! LOL! Where in the Bible does it instruct you to be ready to throw down at the slightest provocation? |
Oh man. You're totally right. My bad. I wasn't looking to throw down at the slightest provocation because I HAVE seen churches bill themselves that way, but that's not what this PP was doing. Thanks for pointing it out. |

I find it interesting that several posters have recommended churches that are not liberal, despite OP making it clear that she wanted something liberal.
Seems like a form of proselytizing -- trying to get people into a kind of church that they said they don't want, in hopes that once they get there, they will see the light. |
