DC has been diagnosed with alopecia areata

ive had this patches on my scalp when i was 16. but it did grow again after several years and now patches went appearing again. wht should i do.? suggestions please. thanks!

I had this - three spots about an inch and a half in diameter. It happened when my thyroid was thrown out of whack after I had my first baby, so have your child's thyroid levels checked. I had cortisone shots monthly for about six months, that plus thyroid medication cleared it up with no recurrence. Good luck!


I could have written this post - my experience exactly. Good luck, OP! It was definitely Alopecia Areata, diagnosed by a dermatologist who also sent me in the direction of an endocrinologist for the thyroid issue.

It's not alopecia areata if it's caused by a thyroid condition. It is hair loss caused by a thyroid condition.

You should join the national alopecia areata foundation. They have newsletters and support groups.
