OP, ignore this and the other posters whose children will never, ever get so much as a scratch on them.

Their children of course are fictional.

NP, but I’m not so sure about that. Some people micromanage their children so much that the opportunity for them to get a scratch doesn’t happen. DHs SIL is this way. Her bits were never allowed on swings, to go to the park on the climbing equipment, etc.

OP, I’ve had a burn from pizza so I’ve thought about the amazing tar-like properties of cheese. This is a really good PSA. I think if most people are honest, they’ve had even near misses of things they just didn’t think about being a hazard.

Np. Great point!

OP, don't beat yourself up. things happen.

Essentially a grease burn.

Use flour within the first minute if a burn for instant relief and minimize tissue damage.

My random factoid of the day.

NP ( not op) How is this a huge parenting fail? Who would think pizza was so hot to burn a kid's face? I would say having your child drown in a pool or hit by a car is a huge parenting fail.

You are not very nice, pp. I thought it was nice of op to warn others!

I still don't understand why go to ER with it. It's basic first aid.

ER??? You should have burn cream at home. I also would have gone to urgent care instead.

+1

To the people questioning why she went to the emergency room it is because of the risk of infection. Also, people always air on the side of caution when it comes to babies. The emergency room was the right call.

Glad your baby is ok. Accidents happen so fast, even when you are inches away.

Did you and the they PP areas that her doctors office told her to go to the ER?

God, I am so sick of people just attacking OPs of every single post on here.

This flour thing doesn’t appear to be true unfortunately https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/flour-power/

Supervise your kid better next time. I'm glad your kid is better.

Yes. You should supervise your her better. Next time stare at them the whole time, don’t blink and don’t you dare take your eyes off of them for a fraction of a millisecond. Otherwise, you are an irresponsible parent. In your post you mentioned you were sitting at the same table. Next time sit next to them so that your bodies are in constant contact.
Sincerely,

A perfect parent who has never experienced any kind of accident with my children at all.

This reminds me of the kerfuffle over the hot mcdonald's coffee. Everyone thought the customer was ridiculous but my opinion is that it is reasonable to think the coffee is hot but not THAT hot. Same with pizza. I would not expect it to be served so hot it gives 2nd degree burns.

Sorry about that OP. My kids are a bit older now but thanks for the PSA in case it helps somebody. Thanks also for opening up yourself to DCUM critics, of which there are many.
