Has Elliott always been a girls name?

The other one that has surprised me is Ryan. I've met several girl Ryans.

I know-what is with the girls named Ryan?! Ugh.

Yeah girl Ryan is the worst. I still know lots of little boys being named Ryan. I've also met a few girls named James. Just stop people. There are tons of great unfeminine girl names out there if that's what you're looking for. There's nothing wrong with naming a girl a girl's name.

It was a boys' name, until that TV character probably.

Boys name. But in the south is popular to use "boy" names for girls: Ryan, Cameron, Taylor etc.

Eh, Elliott and Ryan are fairly feminine, as far as male names go. It’s not like naming a girl Bob or Walter.

The problem is what is a "girl's" name hasn't always stay the same. Lauren, Ashley, Marion, Sandy, Carol, Lindsey, Leslie, Whitney. I could go on forever... These all used to be a traditional male names. Naming and culture evolve. Just roll with it

LL Cool J played a character named Marion.

Nope. I had a crush on Elliott from E.T. when that movie came out.

No. It was always a boy's name and still is.

Now the trend is to name your girls Ellis, which is also a traditional boy name. Since we do not have 'name rules' like other countries we just all have to deal.

Elliott is ONLY a boy's name. Naming a girl that is abusive and stupid.

Boy name, and I side eye all the moms with little baby girls named Elliott.

I actually have no problem with traditionally male names on girls. My daughter is Kyle and she is names after an old female friend whose first name was Kyle, too.

I think Elliot is cute for a girl. So is Ellis.

It's saying here's a name I like, and I will use it for my girl.

It's true that people never name their boys "girl names", and it's sexist. But you're not going to fix sexism by insisting that girls should only get "girl names".
