How can three countries host the World Cup?

Agreed, it would be embarrassing to host but not play. Hopefully we'll make the cut for 2026!

I don’t know much about this, but it was my understanding that the host country gets an automatic bearth in the tournament.

Awesome! I would love to go if any of the games are nearby. I think this is pretty exciting!

NO!!! Let's build a bunch of venues for a month's worth of use. I think it's awesome to spread it across the continent.

Neither the US nor Canada made the WC this year - three teams from the Americas will crowd out other contenders from this region.

I’m guessing the host countries will get a spot. I heard they are adding four more groups of four to the group play round.

That’s nuts. 16 more teams!!!

This made a lot of sense to me. With so many possible venues, the host countries will have the choice (but not the requirement) to build new venues. The US could do it again by itself quite easily with our existing infra, but I'm very pleased we'll be co-hosting with Mexico and Canada. It would have been a particular challenge (though more than possible) for Mexico, which now hosts games without having to overspend on new white elephant stadiums.

Can't be any more embarassing that what happened with the Women's World Cup.
