Is that what they are! yeah, they fly too! I thought it was a mini baby mosquito, I guess not. |
springtails. seriously
|
^ yep. They thrive anywhere there is moisture and can get in through screeens. |
It's the beginning of the invasion of the body snatchers. They will soon turn into small pods. |
Imagine what you must look like to them, OP! |
I am having a problem with something similar in our kitchen. They are very, very small, black and move quickly. We can wipe down any area in which we see them with Clorox wipes, killing them as you do so and that keeps them away for a while. But usually within a few days they are back. They appear on counter tops, sink backsplash, stovetop, etc. I don't believe they're aphids and they will come to any type of food or liquid. They seem to disappear and I can't tell from where they're coming. Any suggestions

Do they live / breed in the drains? |
No, and the only time we see them in the sink is when we have left dishes in it. They are on counters and sink backsplash more often than in the sink. When we start wiping and killing them they try to run for very small cracks between backsplash and wall and/or windowsill. They're so tiny and fast they actually seem to appear out of nowhere and to almost disappear into thin air. I've never seen anything like this before. |
They die quickly with alcohol or vinegar. I do think its cause of an underlying mold issue behind walls or wood. |
Also, I just replaced a corroded metal sink drain with complete PVC pipe set and there were no bugs of any type in the old pipes. This was done 8 days ago and the situation is the same now as it was about 2 weeks ago.
Thanks for your help. Jimi |
OK, just got your reply about possible mold. We'll check for that and go from there.
Again, thanks for the help. Jimi |
Let us know what you find! these pests are annoying! |
Thanks DCUM! I've been trying to figure out what these bugs were as well. |

You’ve got springtails. Book lice, aka psocids, don’t jump around/fly like that. |
