Does anyone know anything about global initiative at Holton (including cost)?

Anonymous
Oh do people have anything better to do with their time than to continue to poke fun at a school they obviously know nothing about

Why do you all care if people are asking about Holton? I'm finding the posts interesting, even though I have sons.

20:49-- If people had honests questions about a school, it would be one thing. So many of these posters think Beauvoir is the only school worthy of discussion. Haven't they figured out Sidwell is the "in place" wtih Obama girls et al?

Everyone who has taken part in one of these "global initiatives" is going to have college essays that all sound alike. I hope someone at the schools is thinking about that.

Does anyone know if all of the students are required to go overseas?

What? Those rich brats with their overly obsessed curling parents?
Do you really think they would let their kids out of the country on their on?

Most of the kids going go wild. too much freedom, feel out of place when no longer in their protective environment, and they drink and do drugs

wow -- you sound very bitter. I'm afraid I think I know who you might be. Why generalize? And what do you mean by "curling parents/"

Curling is a team game with similarities to bowls and shuffleboard, played by two teams of four players each on a rectangular sheet of carefully prepared ice. Teams take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones down the ice towards the target (called the house). Two sweepers with brooms accompany each rock and use timing equipment and their best judgment, along with direction from their teammates, to help direct the stones to their resting place. The complex nature of stone placement and shot selection has led some to refer to curling as "chess on ice."[1]

Oh wait, you think she meant something else?

haha --I know what the sport of curling is. I just didn't know what she meant by "curling parents". That doesn't make any sense to me.

No, there is no requirement to go overseas.

Apparently, it's going to become a requirement. This past summer was the first year of the program

I don't know where you heard that, but I'm a highly involved alum and parent who meets regularly with school administrators, and have heard no such thing. I don't believe that is the case.

You must not have a child in high school. The program is for rising seniors only.

here's the link to the description. It looks like a pretty standard set of international travel opportunities that all the private schools seem to do. The prices for the trips are listed in the materials. They don't appear to be limited to seniors. There is also an in school component which looks like it is simply acknowledging that global perspectives need to be incorporated into the curriculum.

11:14 here - I should have been clearer what I was responding to. I have heard nothing to indicate that the program will become a requirement and do not believe that is true.
