Stoddert--has anyone not had a a horrible experience?

Our son previously moved from B to A team, in fact (red to blue). Agreed that club communication isn’t great, and the all-club mandatory meeting was really silly. As for ditching a kid in a heartbeat, I haven’t seen that at all. I can only remember a few returning players who were left off a team completely at tryouts. Some players do move down, but how can you ever move players up if some don’t move down? It’s hard for kids (my older child experienced it at another club), but that’s life and sometimes other kids are working harder and deserve the opportunity.

They are talking about TRAVEL SOCCER here, not Rec. There are no ‘blue’ and ‘red’ teams for Rec. To the people that started talking about Rec soccer - start your own separate thread.

Otherwise I can't fathom someone have a "horrible experience" with what is essentially a volunteer coached youth soccer league.

Trust me - if your kid is talented enough he will be discovered and recruited for a travel team by the time he is 8 or 9.

Otherwise relax and let your kids have fun playing soccer.

How? there are no stoddert officials at any of the games.

1) take your kid to the yearly soccer tryouts. If he makes a team then they want him. Simple.
Tryouts probably just ended.

You can also sign your kid up for one of Stodderts weekly skills clinics or a summer camp.

Above all - stop whining!! Stoddert is a great organization with many opportunities for all.

This is a pet peeve of mine but can people please stop referring to soccer clubs as “leagues”?

It is not ‘volunteer coached’. Stoddert coaches typically have A, B or C licenses , they teach the kids great skills and they are definitely paid a good salary.

Boys or girls? You know the Stoddert girls seems to do things different vs a lot of the big clubs in the area. The skill is not there for how much they practice.

Stoddert girls is all skills. They sit there practicing foot skills at season practices, all winter long, at home and at summer camps. My DD had a full year of just working on ‘shooting and finushing’ with an excellent team of coaches. They also have extra strength and agility and goal keeping clinics to sign up for. What isn’t always there is brute force kick and run results based Soccer, but no one can say that they don’t work on skills - that’s pretty much all they do. Stoddert girls play a beautiful game!

No offense but for the amount of practice the skill level is not there. Yes it’s stoddert girl travel. Though some of the Stoddert rec teams would give Stoddert girl travel teams a run for their money.

You obviously do not have a grasp of girls travel soccer. Stoddert is not a very competitive club. If your DD was at a competitive club, you would understand. The words used to describe Stoddert girls soccer in Va and Md are unprofessional, lack of development, etc. If it’s such a great program why were you not at the Jeff cup or the Bethesda cup competing in the top Brackets? How about the second or third bracket...did you even go? Why does it take 70 plus offers to fill 3 teams? Why do the best girls in DC not even try out for Stoddert? Take your DD up to BSC or across the river to Arlington or McLean. I know your DD will get a top team offer and we can car pool!
