Like the PP said, super over the top exercise, like suddenly deciding to train for a marathon, may decrease your supply because your body has to now put all of its energy and reserves into training.
Extreme exercise can also slightly alter the taste of BM because of the lactic acid buildup. Just FYI. OP - what are your eating habits like? Some gals lose weight faster than others after a baby. BFing definitely helps since you burn approx. 500 calories making mama juice for your little bundle, but it is important to "replace" those calories with healthy selections. I totally know what you mean by that hunger. I got it when I was PMSing and also now since I too am still BFing. Looks like you got some good suggestions for weight control/loss. Good luck. |
I started WW last week and I lost 3lbs, its all about changing your eating habits and your portions. Also, there is this website call www.Itrain.com they have different programs and you download the type of workout you like to do and a trainer walks you through the session. It is pretty cool like having a trainer in your Ipod. I downloaded the fast and flat 30min treadmill program and is working out great. |
Another endorsement for WW. There are in-person groups if you need the moral support but you can also just sign up online and get the information. They have a plan for nursing moms. I also worked out with a trainer for a couple of months and his advice was no bread, rice, pasta or fried stuff for 2 weeks and then just try to always eat more veggies, meat, etc. I combined his advice with the calorie allotment that WW provided and determined a menu based on that. It was very hard, making sure to keep lots of healthy snacks on hand (lite cheese sticks, apples, baby carrots, nonfat yogurt) made it easier. Plus drink lots of water. Make a pledge to yourself to try it for 2 weeks and see what happens. Once you start loosing the weight that is goign to give you the incentive to keep going. I did work out about 3x a week too (2x strenght training and 1x running) but I do attribute the weight loss much more to my diet than just working out (although that helps with toning of course. I'm now pregnant with twins and am so much more relaxed about the weight gain this time around since I know it can come off. Good luck. |
OP I feel for you. In the first 2 months after I returned to work post-baby (4 and 5 months post-pregnancy) I had 3 people offer me seats on the Metro! I promptly joined Weight Watchers and began running. I have lost 28 lbs and many inches. Am now 6 pounds less than pre-baby #2 and almost at pre-baby #1 weight. It's been a lot of work to get the weight off. Try to ignore the women who are back in their pre-pregnancy jeans 2 weeks after giving birth. I am convinced that a lot of it is genetics and some of us didn't luck out. |
breastfeeding helped me lose weight really fast. but lordy, i gained it back and then some. now let me tell you the secret key to weight loss. eat less. move more.
my new mantra. so simple.... yet SO DIFFICULT. |
Just remember to drink lots and lots of water and skim milk, especially if you start working out. I highly recommend exercise, not just for the weight loss, but also for how great it makes you feel. Love those endorphins! |
You know I have to add in ZUMBA ZUMBA ZUMBA!!! I also got quite a workout ballroom dancing with my baby! Make it fun and you will stick with it, whatever activity you do! I love Yoga, Pilates and running too. |
OP here - truth be told I gained almost 60 lbs and have lost 45+. This while eating cakes and pies. It sounds bad but I am a new mom and the stress and lack of sleep has gotten to me at times. The bfeeding has helped but I can't stop the sweets. Thanks for the ideas. I just need some willpower. I thought writing this message would help my motivation. |
