Your favorite restaurant in DC?

Restaurant Eve in Old Town Alexandria (not DC but close enough for a foodie to travel to).

I would like to think of myself as a foodie and agree that NYC and DC dont compare.
My favorites are
1. Komi for special occasion
2. Blue Duck Tavern has the best tasting food I have ever had here in DC
3. Makoto for sushi
4. Citronelle

As for ambience/scene and decent food but not the best tasting:
Cafe Milano
Bourbon Steak at the 4 Seasons

I would go to Sesto Senso on 18th Street every day if I could!

Tosca is very good italian, and Rasika is very good indian.

Hands down: Brassarie Beck.

Also love Bourbon for brunch.

I have to disagree with the anti-Cafe Milano post. Yes that place is an obnoxious scene and it is very overpriced, but I LOVE some of their dishes. My favorite is the veal milanese (sp?).

Il Molino is also great for Italian.

Matisse in Tenley Town is great for cozy and contemporary French, and it's pretty low key. They also have a fantastic brunch but only on Sundays.

Komi for a special event. Hands down best restaurant in DC.

Mini-bar at Cafe Atlantico

Rasika (the Spinach Chaat melts in your mouth)

Creme on U Street is affordable and consistently good. I had lamb chops with chimichurri recently that were to die for.

the appetizers at Zenga down in Penn Quarter/Gallery Place

Brunch at Next Door (?) on U Street---the restaurant next to (and owned by Ben's Chili Bowl, but with a nouveau southern/soul food yuppie menu)

Kinkead's (its been a while but loved their seafood, foggy bottom)
Bombay Palace K street
Zed's Ethiopian M street
Zola

Excited that someone mentioned Guapos-great Tex Mex food, fun atmosphere, not overly expensive, kid friendly, rockin' Margaritas, outside dining (the Tenleytown location is so much fun). Guapos rocks-and no, I don't own one or work there.

Guapos???

I think for consistency, Marcels, Tosca, Central and Becks rank at the top of my list (of course, no inexpensive, although Tosca has a good pre-fixed menu). Two Amys and Cork for more casual.

Central, Blue Duck, Beck's, Palena.

central
blue duck
founding farmers
palena
obelisk
zola
nora
2 amys
rasika

I also have to question the Guapos suggestion. Really disturbing suggestion.

I love: Blue Duck, Komi, and further down the spectrum, Dukems and Ooohs and Aaahs.

Agree with this. Also had a good meal at Posto in 14th St/Logan area that was quite good. I like Patisserie Poupon for coffee and pastries in Gtown and in Bethesda, Persimmon is quite good. The Blacks restaurants are good too, particularly the one in NW DC/Palisades. 701 is good too lately as is Central .

Another vote for Komi for special occasion. Skip Rest. Eve too expensive for what you get.

Two Amys and Cork are great

Anyone know a good Dim Sum place?
