Plenty of 2nd graders multiply- some can divide. Both my kids had to have 12x12 tables cold by 1st day of 3rd grade. |
This is true. My child has been considered average in math in FCPS. He’s not in AAP and has not been in advanced math. He started learning multiplication in 2nd and knew most facts before 3rd. |

13:22 here - my child is leading the pack in her 3rd grade class in one of the highest-ranking elementaries in APS. I don't assume that means the school is not good enough or that her peers aren't smart enough or that she won't be challenged enough or needs to go to a gifted school or something. I assume it means that there is a wide range of kids and someone is going to be at the head of the pack, and that head might change from year to year.
You also have no idea how many other kids might actually be doing the same level work as your kids. There are a decent number of kids being pulled out for gifted in our school because let's face it, if your parents can afford to buy in an area where the houses cost $1M+, they are probably pretty smart, and their kids probably are too. Your kids sound like they are doing well, and that's great. Sounds like your school is doing a good job. I would give you the same advice that I gave you or someone similar on another thread about changing schools - if you are going to do this, I would probably do it during ES and not right before middle school. I think it would be mean to move kids right before middle school because it's a tough time and they should go into it knowing at least a few kids. |
