Aruba or Dominican Republic?

That said, there is some cultural stuff to do in Santo Domingo so DR might be a good mix for you both.

Me again - but I feel like most of the responders here flew into Punta Cana, and did an AI.

FWIW - I believe I flew in and out of Santo Domingo, did stuff there, stayed most of the time in Cabarete (not in an AI, more Europeans go here), did a day of surf lessons, rode public transportation with chickens, and did a day of a waterfall jumping tour.

DR has a lot of All Inclusive resorts, Aruba doesn't.

Okay, I'm replying to my post, I'm in DR now. If you haven't booked your trip yet, I highly recommend Aruba. Everything in DR is subpar. I'm most disappointed that the service is so bad. Everyone here seems apathetic and unwilling to help with simple requests or questions.
