If it's been going on for an extended period of time and nothing bad has happened, I wouldn't worry now. |
Why are they in that parking spot. If the tv hasn't moved in months call the cops so they can find out what's going in. |
It would totally depend on their behavior. Do they make noise, hang outside the car smoking, interact in any negative way with others, etc? If there are any red flags, act. If they are quiet, keep to themselves, and not disturbing or threatening anyone, I would probably ignore it out of sympathy for them. |
I know you can list your address for purposes of voting as “in a van down by the river”. Maybe the same is true for parking permits. I mean, how do homeless families decide which school their kids go to? |
Of course. Because OP is a normal human. |
THIS! The PP suggesting towing them Is a world class jerk. If all they are doing is living there and not causing a nuisance, then I wouldn't all the cops OR cause them to have a tow fee they cannot pay. Geez -some people are real jerks. |
So you people will call 311 if your neighbor has a visitor parking overnight, but are willing to let an RV camp out for months at a time. OK, sure. |
This a bit different than what you wrote in your post and your title. |
Oh yes, I see why everyone is so eager to live in DC. Sounds charming! If this was VA, I would have called the Arlington or Fairfax County police within the first hour and this would have been handled! |
Exactly. Yes, have sympathy but also have someone check it out because you never know what is going on. If they are not doing anything illegal (I'm not sure of parking an RV on the road is) then there won't be anything to worry about. |
You're not a "jerk" if you don't want someone living in their car in front of your house. You are a normal and reasonable person. It doesn't matter if the people are not misbehaving or causing a nuisance or making you feel unsafe. I wouldn't want people doing that in front of my house, and I bet all the self-righteous PPs who are scolding the OP wouldn't want people living in a car outside their house either. |
What have you done to help people sleeping in cars, PP? We can then judge you as harshly as you have judged OP. |
See, for example, PP. A real jerk who doesn't want people to get help they may or may not need by alerting police to their situation. |
Alerting police and getting their home towed are not the same thing and you know it. |
No, I would not want someone LIVING in a vehicle in front of my house, but again I say there are lots of actions you can take before just towing them. You could even alert them to the fact that neighbors are chattering about them and they may get towed, so they would be smart to ' move around' - call a homeless organization, they will likely send out a person to talk to them to offer services. Last resort would be getting them towed. That leaves them totally without shelter, pissed, desperate and NOW maybe more dangerous 'cause they have nothing left to lose!!!! SMDH! |
