If you want to spend money on a new car and you have the money to spend, do it. But don't buy a $4k car thinking that you are improving your situation.
This $4k car will be old and wouldn't be much better than your 2002.

exactly. you know the 2002. you buy someone else rust bucket for 4000 bucks. you don't know what you are getting...

sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't...

of course I say that and I'll be trying to unload my own rust buckets later this year...
