How and why is Northwestern ranked higher than Brown on US News?

Who could possibly care? My feeling is that this thread was started by the snowflake so triggered by Brown’s perceived liberalism that they’re constantly posting terrible things about the school here

Ivy league is an historic designation. It doesn't tell you anything specific. And #of applicants =/= information about quality either.

Evanston and the Midwest in general can feel super isolated to rich coastal and international kids. Brown is a train ride away from NYC and all their friends at various East coast school.

At least we can all agree that both schools are better than Penn

I would rather go to Cal Poly than either of these two schools.

Do you ever stop and ask yourself why you’re parsing out college rankings that are produced by a for-profit magazine? Presumably you graduated many years ago and yet here you are on an anonymous message board deliberating over what college is top 15 and what’s top 20. At this junction in your life, this debate should be completely meaningless. Invest in some of your apparently ample spare time to investigate what exactly has gone wrong in your life.

Obviously OP is a helicopter parent who was so proud of her child getting into Brown and boasted to everyone she knows about it and was crestfallen to find out her child is going to a "lower ranked" college.

OP--no one really cares. Your child should go to the school that suits them well and has a good program in the field of your child's major. After that, it doesn't matter, no matter what your friend's say about the school their child gets into. If you stop playing one-upsmanship with your childrens' friends' parents, then you won't care either.

Bahaha. I’m bookmarking this post so I can copy and paste this part on various DCUM threads. Love it.

I went to NU (not for UG) and apparently it's the best place to have gone to have become a late night show host based on the alumni mag on my kitchen counter lol

Um, not according to the rankings.

Thanks for sharing.

Rankings are arbitrary and stupid. Nothing within the top 30 is really meaningfully different from one another, except for differences in program offerings. Stop worrying about it.
