It's been abnormally cold in the Carolinas this march. No way will any outdoor pools be open, let alone lazy rivers.
Maybe go to Great Wolf Lodge for a night. But you're not going to find an indoor (or heated outdoor) lazy river and hotel for $150 a night for the better part of a week during spring break. |

Kalahari has an indoor waterpark and lazy river.
Poconos, Penn. |
| I haven’t checked, but would be shocked if GWL or Kalahari have any vacancies at this point. |
| Just do GWL....it will be crowded but it checks your boxes. |
| Homestead Resort in VA near the hot springs has a lazy river as I recall but I think it's too cold. |
They have vacancies, but the prices will be higher than normal. |
| Oh, just drive to Orlando. We do it all the time. If you leave at 4am, the kids won’t even come to until you’ve hit Richmond, and then you’re only 8 hours away. We’re doing this for spring break and will be at that aforementioned JW Marriott. |
It wasn’t open yet last year at spring break but the outdoor pool and spa were. |
I think it’s only open in the summer. It’s a different outdoor pool that’s open all year |
Okay, we just confirmed a car rental and will be driving to Florida. Unfortunately this hotel (with the amazing-looking lazy river) is booked. But since it's florida, we'll be fine without the lazy river! Lots of other things to do and see. |
Glad you found something. FYI - Massanutten in VA has a lazy river. We've found good deals on the on-site condos, but if you are in the DC area it is close enough for a day trip. |
| Just to be clear, Orlando is NOT 8 hours from Richmond. It’s at least 10, not counting stops, and I doubt your entire family can hold their bladder for 10 hours. |
+1 Dr. Google says it’s 10hrs 23 min between Richmond & Orlando. |
Yes, I noticed that too. But 12 hours (from here) is okay. We'll probably make a stop in Charleston going one way, and Savannah going the other. I think I've found a VRBO that is about an hour this side of Orlando, close to the coast. Disney and those parks cost too much, and we're more nature people than crowd people anyway. I do appreciate all the input! |
No, you won’t do anything in 12 hours, especially if you stop in Charleston. Look on a map—it’s not off of 95. Savannah—Yes. Charleston—no. We drive from DC to Palm Coast, an hour east of Orlando almost every spring break. Plan on a 14 hour trip with stops right off 95 and random traffic. |
