Bris: Rabbi Michael Henesch vs. Dr. April Rubin?

We liked Henesch. I had heard he could be cold or rude with the parents, but we didn't find that to be the case. But it could also be our expectations of the private part with the parents were not high as that is what we had read and expected. He told us how to care for the area and we had no problems with him. We are reform, and he never asked our affiliation. Many of our attendees were not Jewish and the ceremony was lovely and not overly religious so everyone could enjoy it.

Pretty sure he travels to DC (we're in Baltimore) but we are reform, had lots of non-jewish people, and continue to hear about inclusive the ceremony was. We used Steven Adashek. He also uses actual local anesthetic (not just numbing cream) which was really important to me.

We used Henesch. He was fine and we are reform Jews. I am a Jew of Color and my family isn’t Jewish. He never asked me any questions about my Jewish identity or questioned my legitimacy. The bris was short and sweet and we have no complaints. fWIW, we asked for recommendations and got referrals from him that literally spanned a decade.

We are interfaith and used Dr Rubin as well. She was very supportive of me (non Jew and a complete mess after emergency c section). She was also very welcoming of my family. She also used local anesthesia not just cream which I felt was important (I'm an MD and have experience with hospital performed circs all of which I'd seen done with local anesthetic). Had a very bad phone conversation with the other person and would never ever recommend him.

Rabbi Henesch is the best. He’s probably performed over 20k brises in his 40+ year career. I wouldn’t trust my family jewels with anyone else. If you can get him— book him.

I would use Dr. Andrew Engle. We used twice Henrsch. Wasn’t thrilled with his know it all attitude My third boy I went with a medical doctor that utilizes topical pain medication before the procedure and that is of course slightly less horrible for the baby.

For anyone looking, I considered all these mohels and did a ton of research. We ended up choosing Dr. Marmon based on a conversation with him and the many positive comments on here. while he’s conservative, we are not and we are also interfaith. He did an excellent job making all the non Jewish family members feel welcome and more importantly, included, and he explained all the steps and put us all at ease. The ceremony itself was a bit more religious than we preferred but it was a small price to pay for an excellent surgeon doing your son’s bris. He is an MD and gave our son anesthetic which was important to me. He did a really good job, and we have had no issues, unlike several friends who used different mohels and have had issues they have had to seek out care for at Children’s when their sons were older. I was really so happy we found him as it was so important to me to make sure it was done well, for my son’s health and future self-confidence as he grows up, so sharing in case this helps anyone.
