Healthy Weight Gain During Pregnancy

Anonymous
PP here again. Note I said "best bet" but it's nowhere near a guarantee with the genetics and other factors.

With me, I'm pretty convinced I can eat like crap or follow the advice of the doc and end up in roughly the same place weight wise and lose on the same schedule (my mom and grandma both had a ton of kids and they gained and lost the same way as I did every time). But I also want to focus on my baby's health and my long-term health, so it isn't just about weight gain.

I have just felt that up to this point I have been extremely "unhealthy" because of my food aversions and lack of exercise, and since I am finally turning the corner I want to get in the right track. I also read stories here about women who gain so much during pregnancy, and then struggle to lose it after.

I only gained 30lbs and struggled to lost 15lbs after birth. It took 8 months of heavy dieting and then a lot of being hungry (I had a bridesmaid's dress I'd ordered one size bigger than my normal I had to fit into). You don't know who is going to struggle with weight and who won't. My 100lb friend who gained 65lbs lost it all by 3 months. I'd say the majority of my friends (normal sized women pre-pregnancy) struggled though.

Really? Are (were) you guys older? I'd say the opposite

Early 30s and it was our first baby. We're all pregnant with our second now and I assume it will be harder. Two years later I'd say 1/4 of my mom's group hasn't lost the weight yet (they talk about it).

just be sure to eat enough and heathy food. I was sick a lot my second pregnancy and was not a particularly big eater before (usually 1500 calories sufficient). I had a hard time gaining weight at all and had to go on bedrest and eventually delivered a small for gestational age baby. not entirely sure it was from not getting adequate nutrition or other reasons, but I also know that I had a hard time recovering after #2 (my first pregnancy I had a healthy, 8 lb 15 oz boy, second was under 5lbs full term).
