Wrong, freshmen are required to live on campus - you can file a waiver but it's not guaranteed. All international and OSS kids live in the dorms. My DD has lived in a dorm all four years with many Virginians from all over the state, students from other states and international students. |

Look up The Common Data Set document concerning various schools you're considering (not always easy to find) Another indication is % who are Undergraduate, and Full time Students, And Graduate in 4 yrs (or at least 6 Yrs). If there are a lot of adult students who take a class here-and-there, they aren't living on campus and it is a "commuter school" |
