How old are you? Have you even been on campus in the last decade? GMU has exploded. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Mason_University. DS lived in dorms all four years with international and OOS students.

In case that didn't go through. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Mason_University. Also Mason opened Mason Korea five years ago.

That's a long commute.

Not true. Local students can live with parents and commute.

Nope. Not even close. Majority live with parents and commute. Most GMU undergrads do not live in the few dorm spaces.

Common Data Set for George Mason shows 67% of freshman live in college owned housing.

Anonymous wrote:You can start with the Common Data Set in Section F, which has line for "Percent who live in college owned, operated or affiliated housing". It will have a % for both freshman and undergraduates.
UMBC (freshman) - 70%
George Mason (freshman) - 67%
UMD-CP (freshman) - 93%
Towson (freshman) - 84%

This will help identify commuter schools but not suitcase schools where a large majority of students leave on the weekends.

Doesn;t help you know how many go home every weekend.

Wrong, freshmen are required to live on campus - you can file a waiver but it's not guaranteed. All international and OSS kids live in the dorms. My DD has lived in a dorm all four years with many Virginians from all over the state, students from other states and international students.

Exceptionally easy to apply for a waiver online and get it approved for students living with their parents in Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William, or Loudoun. (Three GMU students live down the street from me -- and no, not on campus!)

Most FRESHMEN do live on campus.

OP, the answer is - - the percentage who live on campus. Look up The Common Data Set document concerning various schools you're considering (not always easy to find) Another indication is % who are Undergraduate, and Full time Students, And Graduate in 4 yrs (or at least 6 Yrs). If there are a lot of adult students who take a class here-and-there, they aren't living on campus and it is a "commuter school"

They are required to live in the dorms freshman year at GMU. You can file for a waiver but good luck with GMU paper bureaucracy. DS lived in dorms for four years with students from all over the world.

Yes, the paperwork is so difficult that students can apply for the exemption online!
