Agree with Puma, I got DD these after she started asking for light up shoes. A kid actually has to stomp pretty hard to get them to light up, so a lot of the time one wouldn't know they're light up shoes.

Light up shoes are terrible for the environment.

The Sketchers one were the least offensive to me - you can change the light pattern to simply be one color and not flashing as I try to be considerate when possible in public.
They are plain - here's the link to the black ones. I got my 4 year old DS the plain white ones. They're fine. He doesn't wear them often but loves the attention when he does remember them and wore them on a few outings. https://www.shoes.com/skechers-s-lights-energy-lights-high-top-sneaker/796223/1711211?cm_mmc=googleproductads_pla_with_promotion-_-none-_-none-_-none |
My son had Geox ones that were ordinary light up shoes with no hideous logos or whatever.
FWIW, I bought the Carter's ones b/c they were cheap and less hideous than some of the others. They fell apart within a week.
Op here -- The Carter ones should do the trick, and they aren't horribly expensive! Thanks PP. He'll get SO MANY LIKES on Instagram

Stride Rite has a bunch of styles, should be one to fit your taste. When the store in Columbia Mall was closing, we bought 3 pairs of shoes for each twin in the next 3 sizes (all sales were 50-60% off). They picked the shoes themselves. They are currently wearing these:

What's wrong with Paw Patrol? My son has a blue pair and we did the BOGO sale at Payless. We got 2 light up shoes for around $38. This is the pair he has. Kids look cute in anything. You're overthinking this.

My husband bought my son some hideous Batman light up shoes from Walmart. DS wore them every day. Before I knew it, it was Time for new shoes anyway. Feet grow fast. Shoes fall apart. I picked out his next pair, and DS didn't complain a bit. Maybe he'll beg for ugly shoes next time, and maybe I'll give in. It just doesn't matter to me.
