Do you have a child at St Leo the Great in Ffx?

Very large, overcrowded school/classroom in our FCPS ES. Poor classroom behavior by other students that isn't quite tolerated but also isn't effectively dealt with. Virtually no adult supervision during lunch (and DS is severely allergic to peanuts/tree nuts, so this is an issue). DS's FCPS ES is fine academically, but I think English fundamentals are sorely lacking (where are the grammar lessons and spelling tests??)
But my primary takeaway is that the ES feels institutional. Large groups of kids are herded through, and the teachers are really only equipped to deal with the kids who stand out for some reason.

Bumping to see if anyone can weigh in on their experience at St. Leo's this past year. How was the transition to virtual learning? Have they announced intentions or plans for the fall yet? I just bumped a thread about St. Joseph's as we are considering that school as well. We have a rising first grader. I don't mind guiding my child through learning activities, but don't want him just doing a bunch of hyperdocs in Google Classroom.

St. Leo's just sent this email yesterday:

Our current plan under Phase III guidelines is to open 5 days a week for in-school instruction. If Local/State/Federal guidelines change back to prior phases we would return to online learning as done in the spring.

We have 3 kids there and the distance learning was pretty seamless. I'm not sure what it specifically looked like for 1st grade but for my 4th and 6th graders they would do things like read a chapter in their textbook, complete the corresponding page in their workbook and then take a pic of their work and send it in. St. Leo's uses actual books and expects the kids to learn handwriting and cursive so in a way that made the tech part easier.

They graded assignments and while the school was understanding about different tech needs the kids were still accountable and even the PE teacher posted different workouts each week. We were impressed and thankful.

Good luck to you!

Thanks for bumping this. We will be starting there in the fall. What do current parents feel about the schools intentions for fall?
