Who will challenge Tim Kaine?

I have no idea, but if I had to guess, there's a fair amount of spillover from Fairfax Underground and some of the Patch websites. Googling some of the thread titles or even certain comments seems to support this. Also, it's an anonymous board, so some people are more likely to say the things they'd never voice aloud.

OP here. If somebody prefers Stewart to Kaine over polices, then he/she must be a racist? Not following the logic here.

I think Kaine and Warner are doing a great job of being reasonable legislators.

They voted to shut down the government over DACA. Not cool.

Because liberals on DCUM cannot argue their points, so they resort to name calling. The most hackneyed being accusations of racism or misogyny.

Not necessarily.

I have tried to understand certain people's reasoning for the way they vote. After listening to their side and analyzing what they say/type, it quite frequently boils down to racism and misogyny. That's not name calling. That's data analysis.

Wait, wait....

So wanting a tax cut and a secure border now qualifies as making someone a "racist"?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!

You already got your tax cut. And yes, typically referring to an entire category of people as “illegals“ is a pretty good tipoff that you might be a little bit racist. Certainly you’re not coming from a place of love and compassion.

Since you’re posting here, can you tell me how you feel about the fact that American taxpayers, not Mexico, will be paying for the wall? Are you fine with that? You don’t mind that Mexico paying for the wall was pure fiction?

And Kaine, Warner, Connolly have NOT introduced anything to compensate VA for it's deluge/flood of Obama's unaccompanied minors. For Fairfax County it's not like 4500 new housing units went up with 15k plus going into the coffers...plus more money for police, gangs, social services.

Every time I hear Sanders and Wyden etc on illegal immigrants I relook at the sheer volume we have to pay for with local tax dollars. Sadly this is Kaine and Co in 2018 on the opioid crisis. https://www.kaine.senate.gov/press-releases/kaine-colleagues-ask-health-insurance-companies-to-play-a-bigger-role-in-stopping-the-opioid-epidemic Why didn't they write this years ago?

FYI-under the new administration there are stricter controls and audits on opioid prescriptions. DR tracking etc.

No one is going to challenge Kaine because Virginia is no longer a purple state. It's blue.

Will be tough for any Republican to win statewide right now.

I don't like Stewart but will take him over Kaine.

Why?

For the same reason that I voted Trump over Clinton:

Stance on illegals
Law and order
Obamacare repeal
Lower tax

Law and order? Yeah right, just look at him attack the FBI over and over again. Somebody that supports law and order would surely support the #1 law enforcement agency in the country.

Not the leadership.... not when they have abused their positions and politicized investigations.
Those in the field and doing their jobs, yep - we support them. There needs to be a thorough cleansing of their leadership. Hopefully, Wray will take care of that.

The Administration said they WANTED to do DACA. Insisting they follow through with what they said (and not deport thousands of people who know no other country than this one) is pretty reasonable

you do realize that the unaccompanied minors are NOT illegal immigrants, right? yet your mind jumps immediately from the one to the other.

That might give you a hint why people think you are a racist - people like you claim the immigration issue is about lawfulness, the fact that they did not come in legally, but then immediately jump to complaining about people who DID come in legally.

The candidates so far:
Minerva Diaz (???)
Nick Freitas (state delegate from Orange/Culpeper)
E.W. Jackson, best known for losing to Northam by 10+ points in 2013
Bert Mizusawa (Trump foreign policy advisor and loser of the VA-02 primary in 2010)
Ivan Raiklin (???)
Corey Stewart (PWC BoS chair, loser to Jackson in 2013's convention and narrow loser in 2017's primary.)

I suspect it will boil down to Stewart vs. Jackson -- my thinking is it's Stewart since it will be a primary (Jackson has a strong base among activists). Polls show Kaine winning by double digits over Stewart, Jackson, Freitas, Brat, Comstock, and Taylor.

Not running: none of the US Reps, Cantor, Cuccinelli, Davis, Gilmore, Fiorina, Gillespie, Ingraham, McDonnell, and Wagner. They're sitting this one out -- and VA nearly flipped Warner in 2014, so the bluification is nowhere near Maryland levels. But in what's shaping up to be a historic wave election for Dems in a state that is increasingly looking blue, and where the A team is clearly sitting out?

(You'd think Comstock would chance a Senate run touting her NeverTrump credentials since she is pretty much lame duck walking in VA-10.)

Comstock needs some more experience. For now Stewart seems to be a good pick.
