How much do you spend on utilities?

$150ish each for electric and gas. (Normally this time of year it's just gas - I think something is going on in my HVAC system.) $70ish for water/sewer. $100+ for Directv. $100+ for Verizon phone/internet. (Another $100ish for AT&T cell service.) This is for 2 people in a 1,500 SF house. I'm starting to get crabby about it and need to figure out a way to bundle something.

There’s some “backup” system that kicks in with the electric when it gets really cold. We had the same thing happen (unusually high electric bill in the winter) and I think that’s what happened.

2800 sq ft SFH in DC, recently renovated and insulation improved. 2 adults, 2 children

Electric - 119
Gas - 137
Cable/internet 163
Water and sewer - 166
Cell (3 phones) 157

These are my most recent bills, not an average. I think the water is crazy high but water fees have gone up exponentially to pay for a multi billion dollar clean water project, the DC Clean Rivers Project.

5800 sqft house

Power bill for last month was $463
No water bill as we have a well
Phone/Internet/Cable w/ Verizon $198
4 cell phones on Verizon $260ish
Trash is $136 each quarter, so $45 each month

Just under $1000 each month. We usually budget $1200.

When the weather is warm, the power bill averages $190-$230.

Question for the group -- why do water bills vary so much?

Ours was $780 total last year for a family of four in a little over 2000 sf. We are not profligate but others seem to be paying half that.

Is it laundry? Long showers? Old water heater? Leaks?? Or does one state charge more (I am in MoCo).

We just installed low flow showerheads, maybe need to do that for faucets too.
