Or, do as my neighbor did, and during voir dire, give an answer that is sure to get you dismissed as being a juror.

Yes, if it's a drug possession trial just say you think marijuana should be legalized. You'll be dismissed.

I leave for my seven-day cruise on Sunday. What are the chances that I will get called as an actual juror? Does it fly if I tell them that I'm already booked for my cruise? I would normally be happy to participate, but this timing just couldn't be worse. Help!

I'm not in Fairfax, but in both DC and MD (the two places I've lived and been called) there's a number or link on the summons that you call and ask them to reschedule. Usually you get 1 free reschedule where you can move it to a day that's more convenient to you.

In my case, I called, and rescheduled for a work trip, and then when the new date, that I had chosen, came around my kid had been scheduled for unexpected surgery that year. When I called the second time, they asked a lot more questions because I'd used up my "unexplained" rescheduling, but they ended up canceling my jury duty altogether. About a year later, I got called and went in but didn't get picked.

You likely can receive an extension if you request one.

But make sure you respond to the summons & let them know.

Just tell them you are already booked for a trip and they will understand I am sure.

It's unfortunate timing but it is your civic duty.

Just tell them you think all criminals deserve the death penalty. They’ll drop you quickly.

I go with the believing anything a police officer says on the stand...gets you bounced throughout the DMV.
