Men, women and, horribly, pregnant women. President Clinton consequently issued an executive order to HHS/AG to have food processors/packagers of meat products adopt strategies to discover whether their products were contaminated before leaving their facilities (a "microdot" system on the packaging commonly used in Europe). GAO's cost benefit analysis sided with regulation. Bush repealed the Executive Order on his first day in office. Senator Harkin is a great advocate on issues of food safety and his office asked me to give testimony on the hill -- on Sept 13, 2001. It was canceled after the 11th and focus has now shifted to bioterrorism as opposed to simple food safety issues like packaging and processing.

So yes, I am rather sensitive to the whole Listeria debate that sometimes is played out on DCUM. And I realize that the risk is small that someone will contract it but I would gladly have given up the pate if my OB would have told me it would save me the anguish of setting two less plates at my table on every holiday.

Was Pate not something to be avoided at the time?

I know WAFFLES weren't something to be avoided! That pretty much opens to door to anything now.

I was pg w/twins and anemic. Told to each iron-rich foods along with my vitamins. Not told to avoid pate by my OB -- a high-risk perinatologist.

Oh PP, I am so sorry. I was the one who asked if it was a food you were told not to eat. So sorry.

my god, i want an italian sub like nobody's business. i told my husband that as soon as he cuts the cord and gets a good look at DS, he is to immediately walk out of the hospital and go get me one.

I did this. My partner was there for about 15 minutes to see the baby and then left to get me a sub. I think it was the best damn Italian sub that I have ever eaten. I asked them to take off the blood pressure cuff and scarfed it down right there in the delivery room.

And then they brought me beef broth for breakfast in the morning. I laughed and walked down to the cafeteria for some real food.

LOL I scarfed down nasty hospital sausage and scrambled eggs after having my first and I don't even eat sausage and hate eggs. Best meal of my life.
