silly racism (?) question

OP, here...thanks for all the answers. To calrify for those who were unclear...My sister and I are both white and the nanny is African American. The gift is for the nanny's daughter's 2nd birthday. Of course she could choose something else, but my sister saw a baby doll she liked, it was African American, thought it would be perfect, but then got a little twinge of "I don't know"...It's a baby, not a Bratz. Very cute, not stereotypical at all IMO. I think she should go for it based on the comments here, and I appreciate the feedback from the African American moms.

Yaay for DCUM!!! No-one called anyone a racist or a troll or an idiot, and everyone was helpful! (At least, so far . . .)

Ditto. The kid may not even like dolls. Ask the mom.

I'm latina and my daughter got a doll last year for her birthday that looks just like her (dad is black, the doll had caramel skin and brown curly hair) and she LOVES it more than any other doll she has. I think black is the way to go and the little girl will appreciate having a doll that looks just like her.

I second this! Always refreshing!
