Hyde Park is not a neighborhood.

There's a great children's only park called Coram's Field, a nice shopping center in the middle of the neighborhood with a supermarket to stock up on groceries plus lots of convenient (child friendly) restaurants (it's called the Brunswick Centre), you have the British Museum which has a number of fascinating exhibitions for kids, several underground stops that will take you just about anywhere in the city, an easy walk to the National Gallery and Soho and Trafalgar Square. And lots of lovely squares that makes it a pleasure to wander through the neighborhood.

This. It's actually a very child friendly area and very central. The kids loved Coram's Field.

We stayed a few blocks from King’s Cross and it was great. Tons of bus routes interested at the stop, and there were several Tube stops nearby. PLus, we were within walking distance of the train to Paris at St Pancras. The bus routes thing was fun, we would take the Tube wherever we were going in the AM and take a double decker bus back- so much to see. We also purchased Oyster passes. There was also a small but great grocer on the way home. We ended up eating most breakfasts and dinners at home and lunches out. That worked for us.
