Years of Foreign Language in High School

Anonymous
My DD took 3yrs and moved on. She hated language courses. Doubled in science one year and math in the other.

Rarely does a school require 4 years

My DS is quitting Spanish after Spanish 3 this year (10th). He's made As, but he is not a language kid and hates it. He will have to take his chances as a pointy candidate rather than the classic well-rounded one -- since he will be doing 4 AP classes next near, including Physics C and Calc BC, and will also take non-AP computer programming and engineering science, he'll be quite pointy.

As I mentioned to him yesterday, though -- it's not just getting into college, it's getting out of it. For example, he's been really interested in a highly regarded liberal arts school for physics. But it requires 11 credits of a foreign language for graduation. I think he would be much happier somewhere that didn't require foreign language for graduation.
