My 17 year old started a Facebook birthday fundraiser...for herself

begging for donations for a school trip for a competition is a bit different than a teen begging for money on facebook.

"hey folks, we all now my b-day is coming up, and the one gift I really really want is a pair of christian louboitins for the spring formal, and cash/gift cards, as a gift would go a long way to helping me reach this goal.

Yeah, one is more up front and honest, the other is disguising a luxury trip as a "school trip," a "charitable mission," or whatever...

Well, the cheerleaders had to have won a spot at nationals or something.

OP, I assume it was (mostly) a joke unless she actually created a mechanism for people to donate.

Frankly I find the FB donation thing really obnoxious. I just had a friend soliciting donations from all her friends to a homeless shelter for her milestone birthday. The next day she posted photos of the massively expensive birthday extravaganza her husband had orchestrated for her. It's a weird thing to demand charity from your friends in general, even weirder when you are showing off your super fancy self-celebration.

sounds like a joke and that you should get a sense of humor, OP.

Your DD has a great sense of humor! Cracks me up! Good for her. She is actually mocking herself, you do see that don't you?

Today, this. Tomorrow, GoFundMes and Cam Whoring.

I’m hoping it’s a joke?

She's also raising money for Facebook, which takes a sizeable cut from those fundraising posts.
