my sibling and i did not have chores when we were growing up, other than basic “keep your room neat and put away your laundry.” i didn’t grow up entitled or selfish and throughout college and grad school I was always a cooperative and neat roommate .

my parents did not drop everything to give us rides places, though - we had to ask others for rides (which made me feel like a mooch), or bike.

Yes, my mom had that theory as well.
The result? I know nothing about housekeeping and suck at it.
And to add, I can be quite selfish at times which I think is an extension of not having to contribute and having the expectation that someone else will do it and this effected my relationships.

+1. Exactly. Luckily, I found a husband who does all the housekeeping for me!
