Teaching Teens How to Drive

Driving school -- done. They come to your house to pick up your kid and come back an hour or two later, better drivers. Totally worth every penny.

It depends on the kid. My 16 yr old has inattentive ADD, and her dad took her out to let her practice driving. She forgot that she was driving. He then let her use the 4-wheeler, and she lost control and ran into his house. My 14 year old watches me closely, and she is confident that when she starts Driver's Ed next year she'll be ready to drive. She's very focused, and very responsible. My adult sons had no problem at all driving. I told my ex-husband I think he's going to have to take our daughter to an empty parking lot and just let her practice over and over until she gets comfortable. She's afraid to even take Driver's Ed at this point.

I actually enjoyed teaching my son to drive. Ended up being a great bonding time. Sure, it was scary at first, but eventually he got reasonably good.

He accompanied me on my errands, and we all know that teens open up in the car like they do nowhere else.

Does your son have a learner's permit? He'll need to get one before you start teaching him how to drive.

Go to a large, empty parking lot for practice.

No. Those video driving games are nothing like real on the road experience. It's like saying that Wii Sports is the same as actually bowling or golfing. Totally different things.
