When I was a kid we just called that playing outside.

It sounds like you would benefit from learning more about Outdoor Ed.

They should just make it a summer camp for rich families with too much money and time on their hands or just eliminate it altogether. Talk about a waste of tax dollars. Just take a vacation to the mountains.

I went many years ago and my daughter went last year. It's a wonderful program. Don't worry about it. Your child will have a wonderful time regardless of the weather!

Ours was cancelled b/c of water main break at facility

My kids’ middle school always seems to get the Jan/Feb time slots, too. It is fine and the kids have a great time especially because they don’t know any differently! The rain is a bigger issue than the cold in my experience, but the teachers and outdoor ed facility leaders find ways to work around it, change times of activities to mesh better with the weather, etc. For sure pack rain gear because if it rains they need it simply to walk from building A to B to their cabins and so on.

The only questionable day is Monday (tomorrow) when there's supposed to be some mixed precipitation. Which days are your son going? I think it will be okay.

Well, you’d be raising an annoying wuss who would grow to hate you if you kept him home.

I don't think it's a waste. I actually wish it was still 5 days like when I was growing up.

Mine too! Right after a big snowstorm and still snow on the ground, my boots weren’t waterproof so my mom sent me with a supply of Wonder Bread bags and rubber bands. I enjoyed every minute of it. Especially, for some reason, KP duty.

I wish my kids had this opportunity, instead it’s a two day (and not sleepover) Outdoor School.

My child went in extreme cold weather in January or February a few years ago. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t take away from her experience. The extreme cold made it less pleasant to hike and be outside in general. She came home with a “meh” experience.
