First IUI - Clomid + Follistim - Any success stories? Feel like protocol won't work - Frustrated!

OP here...thank you so much poster 14:48! I truly hope this is a successful cycle for you. I don't mean to get too personal but what made your 2 IVF cycles unsuccessful? I'm curious because like you, my insurance covers IUI (not IVF) and we decided to try 3 IUIs before moving on to IVF, which is what our Dr originally recommended we do. I don't have any major health problems however I have a gut feeling that I'm going to be a poor responder to the drugs. I'm always encouraged to hear stories where those that failed with IVF did get pregnant with an IUI.
Thank you so much again!

OP, just my experience...I was a poor responder to Clomid (3 IUI cycles) but responded great to injectibles (i'm 31, no known issues w/me or husband). I only did one IUI cycle w/injectibles (didn't work), but at least we learned my body did well on a very low dose of injectibles, esp since we are going to start IVF next year...good luck!

OP here...thats great news 21:16, I have a gut feeling that I will have the same experience and will respond better to injectables than the clomid/injectable combination, but everyone's posts have me really encouraged! How many follicles did you get when you did the injectables? What size were they?

21:16 here. I don't remember all of the numbers for that cycle, it was a few months ago, I do remember at trigger I had a two dominant follicles: 19mm and a 20mm, I definitely had several other follicles, those were just the biggest. never had any problems with hyperstimulation either. with clomid my follicles never got bigger than 15mm without premature LH surge, so it was discouraging doing the trigger/IUI, I just had a feeling my body wasn't responding correctly to that drug.

Our RE had no idea why our 2 IVF cycles failed so we switched clinics. Our new clinic did a re-analysis of my husband's sperm and recommended IUI. With no health problems, I don't understand why you think you are going to be a poor responder. If you have any questions you can email me at TTCbaby2009@gmail.com

OP here. Thank you so much for responding! I'll definitely be sending you an email. I sincerely appreciate your shared story and I'll totally explain my fears regarding why I think I will be a poor responder. Thank you again!

Glad to hear SG's IUI protocol works for some woman. We were not successful (3 tries) with that method and it turned out my DH had a more serious male factor than we origially thought. I just got a BFP from our first round of natural cycle IVF with ICSI...thank you Dr. Gordon.

Funny...I had the opposite experience...had 2 rounds of NCIVF and both were negative. Hoping SG's IUI protocol will be successful for me as Dominion's and Dr. Gordon's definitely was not!

That protocol worked for me on 2nd try when I was 34. SG knows what they are doing. Trust me.

It did not work for me when I was 38. At 38 I had success on 2nd IVF.

PP - I should also mention that my FSH was 9.5 when I was 34. Good luck to you.

Even though I had "high" FSH I was always a good responder both for IUI and for IVF.

I have high FSH (day 3 -15) and I was rejected by my first RE, but natural cycle IVF worked for me, my DH has poor motility but we are proof that it only takes one good man or sperm!

OP here...thank you so much 15:13 and 15:15 for your posts! So encouraging!

poster 19:15 I have secondary IF and high FSH and I have been doing superovulation protocol without success, I came across this blog by Dr. Gordon and it caught my attention. Three yrs ago my FSH was 7 and now it's 13 so things have definitely changed, and my RE says egg donation is my best option.

Would NCIVF be an option even if my chances were low?

Hi 9:23,

I also have secondary IF and high FSH (18). I consulted with Dr. Gordon in May about NCIVF. He said he would cycle me, and that they'd been seeing success in patients older than me with NCIVF, but it is way too early for them to have good stats on the program (they just started doing NCIVF for older women last November or so). He was optimistic that it was worth a shot, but honestly I'm not sure he wasn't just trying to sell me on it . (Truthfully, I consulted with a number of REs, and used several, and felt that most of them were trying to sell me on going with them - I have the cash, and they need patients.) He said they were making beautiful embryos using NCIVF, but beautiful embryos don't indicate genetically normal embryos. I ended up not doing it, mostly because I'd had enough with medical treatment and was running out of money - even if I did 3 cycles of NCIVF, my chances would probably only be a 20% live birth rate at most, and I've fallen on the wrong end of that stat too many times to go through it again.

Oh, my FSH was supposed to be 18 - not sure how the smilie was made.
