we don't wear shoes in our house. I'm often sockless because I wear ballet flats, so when I take them off at the door, I'm not wearing socks. My toddler is often sockless because he slips on our wood floors-- even in "no slip" socks-- and he won't leave slippers on.
That said, I'd happily have others wear socks if they want. |
We don't wear shoes in the house, ever.
All of our kids' socks have the anti-skid stuff on the bottom, so we usually also wear socks. But if they've been playing outside (vs just shopping or a class) then the socks are usually dirty too, and we don't wear dirty socks in the house. It's heated inside so not sure what the problem is. No pets and the floors tend to be pretty clean. We don't have any fungus or anything. However, if someone did have fungus and they wanted to bring a clean pair of socks (or slippers) to wear here then we'd be fine with that. I'd be a bit annoyed if someone wore dirty socks on the carpets though. |
They probably have heated floors (my dream house) and, as others have said, worry about the kids slipping in socks. |
My 3 year old nephew visited last weekend and I suggested he’d have cold piggies if he took his socks off too. He gently explained that I have slippery floors and I told him that makes sense then to take his socks off. He replied very seriously, “That DOES makes sense.” |
How strange to require bare feet. As someone else posted, a guest may have a foot issue, or what if s/he is just self-conscious about going bare foot. How about slippers? I have visited homes, and have done the same for guests, where they offered slippers for us to wear during out visit - nice clean, possibly even new ones. I do understand about the possible slippery floor issue, and it's not realistic to provide slippers of all sizes. But come on, they can cover a range of sizes, and what's so hard about having a pair or two for guests?

Ugh. |
Cool story. |
Wooden floors can be very slippery and dangerous. We have wooden floors and carpets. All shoes come off at the door. The hard floors are very cold this time of year so it's slippers for the family. Visitors bring their own to wear. We usually don't have socks on in the house but wear slippers. I've been homes with polished wooden floors that were deadly in socks. We just take shoes and socks off when warm enough but when cold we put slippers on. |
