A friend from college has a son named Ignacio, nickname Ziggy. Suppose it could also work with the English version: Ignatius.

I have a cousin who just had a baby boy who goes by Ziggy. They didn't find out the sex before birth and Ziggy was their nickname for the baby in utero and now it's stuck. His given name has no connection to Ziggy.

why not? Most of us do. Go name your kid a non nickname if nicknames bother you.

I agree with first poster. Most of us do not do this. Most of us actually name our child what we want to call her.

Or David Nesta, apparently (thanks, Wikipedia!)

But really, if you want to call your child by a nickname of Ziggy, just do that. Give your child any name you want, and use the nickname Ziggy. Charlotte, nickname Ziggy. Henry, nickname Ziggy. Hildegarde, nickname Ziggy. Valmiki, nickname Ziggy. There is no nickname police.

This really made me laugh, given the connection to politics, but apparently it's not an uncommon Polish name.
