Bobby Flay's mac and cheese carbonara is SOOO good- this is gourmet and extremely tasty- never any leftovers when we serve this for dinner parties (yes- sit down dinner parties- it's that good as a side).

this recipe has too many ingredients and steps for a quick family meal.

I'll second Martha Stewart's recipe, which I made tonight. Unfortunately,my kids hated it. With the gruyere it is definitely a more grown-up taste. It makes a TON!

I thought OP's question was what was a fab mac and cheese and this it- when we make it- we make a large batch and freeze a lot.. it is work but it's completely worth it (read reviews for tips on preparing it)..

My kids have hated every single homemade mac n cheese recipe I've tried so far. I hated "real" mac n cheese when I was a kid, too. I add frozen mixed veggies or peas and cut up cooked chicken to boxed mac n cheese; kale tastes really good mixed into boxed mac n cheese, too....

If your DC don't like blue cheese, skip it for the sprinkling on the top, but leave it in the melty part (adds a richness that grownups and kids both love).

Really? I'm not the poster and I'm not an advanced or even intermediate cook by any means but it isn't that much more involved than anything else being posted. You're basically cooking some ham in the pan and then doing the same butter/flour thing, adding in the cheese and then baking.
