What to do with puppy that got spayed

Anonymous
Leave her at the vet's the day of the surgery (this is generally how it works out, anyway - they'll want her for a certain period of time before surgery for prep, and then recovery after the anesthesia), and take the following day off to stay with her and let her hang out in comfy spot. After that, you'll really need to crate her for the remainder of the recovery period whenever someone's not around to watch her .

Keep her quiet the day of the surgery.

+1. Our 9 month old lab mix was chill the day after and then day 2, she was back to her hyper self and there was no keeping her calm and inactive.

Now, she stays out and has access to the kitchen and living room (one big space). The first few weeks were rough but knock on wood - this week she is digging the potty pads and not chewing shoes.

I might see about getting her a sitter on rover. No way I can afford to board her two weeks at the vet.

Definitely see if you can find someone on Rover who will host her for daycare. I work from home full time so I offer daycare (but not for dogs under 1 year). It's a good option if you have to go back to work right away. If you've never used Rover before, you can use the code beaglelucy20 for $20 off your first stay with any sitter. Good luck!

Don't crate her after the surgery. It will be very uncomfortable.

If you're taking the day off, take it off. Find a friend or a pet sitter if you can't.

You realize she is suppose to be on limited activity for 10-14 days. Day 1 isn’t the issue...

That is a crazy long time. Usually it's a couple of days.

I got that from googling and reviewing multiple sources...

No it’s not. My dog injured herself a few times during recovery and had to go to the vet. Each time she injured herself it prolonged the recovery period. It’s a major surgery.
