Georgetown law school charge general public $250 a year to use its library

I'm sorry but that doesn't seem unreasonable to me. It's a private library with vast holdings. The law librarians are highly trained. I mean, if you want general books go to the free public library.

Fair? How old are you, 5?

It's a private institution, you're not entitled to use their library. Go to UDC's law library if you want free access. George Mason's law school is in Ballston, right on the Orange line too.

Everyone thinks they're entitled to everything these days. OP probably wants to bring their dog to the library too.

I don't understand the gripe. It's a law library. The resources are specific and costly, not to mention that it's filled with law students studying. This isn't a general public library.

I used GWU's main library to study during summers home and it seemed like they allow people unaffiliated with the university in there to loiter. But that was about 10 years ago.

This allows the law firm to spend significantly less on there in house libraries and information services. Not as many requests from academics and policymakers. So, I think it is perfectly natural for Georgetown to seek payment, particularly when commercial enterprises are using their resources. Maintaining a library costs money, both the physical resources, and the human resources. I am not at all offended that Georgetown charges outsiders for this.

If you have a particular need to use the library on a very limited basis, you may wish to call directly and seek a waiver. That, or connect with someone in your subject area at the law school who may be able to help out.

Thank you for explaining. I didn't consider this before and it makes total sense.

What if I just want to use the restroom? Do I need to pay 250 too?

WTF? Why would a private school’s law library and it’s vast resources be free to the public? What am I missing...?

Every building is not required to have restrooms for the outside public to use! Start a campaign for the city to put public bathrooms around, but don't get mad at private institutions for being PRIVATE!

And for the record, I am very, very liberal. I think that US cities should have publicly maintained restrooms like many European cities. The self cleaning ones are fantastic!

It’s not a PUBLIC library. Generally things that aren’t public cost money to use. You sound super immature.

What right do you have to use a restroom at a private institution with which you have no affiliation? You sound deranged.

Boy, Georgetown people sound tough. I thought trump supporters were bad, you are not any better.

Are you stupid OP? It's a private school and costs a fortune to attend. Why would you expect non-law students to be able to use it?

"Get your filthy hands off my books!"

$250 a year seems a bargain to me.

I would imagine that many of the users are law firms.
