| Nooooooo Laurel Ridge is supposed to stay under the popularity radar! We live in an adjacent neighborhood to KPW. You can’t go wrong here if you are looking for a “normal” feeling school where people are nice but kids aren’t in a rat race to TJ/AAP. The community itself is really great with neighborhood pools, fun activities, a lake that everyone treasures, and a caring set of neighbors. It is seriously like living in the 1970s. |
I agree with this. We actually chose this community because it's not crazy. It's literally a gem. We are minutes from the VRE, which always has parking in Burke Center. We were able to afford a single family home for 500K, which I thought was a fever dream when we found the house (though prices have gone up in the past few years). Yes, it's a bit Brady Bunch. But it's such a nice place to raise kids. I've been so pleased. |
What is KPW? |
Kings Park West |
| In the Spring, we will be actively looking for a house zoned for Laurel Ridge due to all the positive parent reviews we've heard. |
| Seems like it has a pretty late start for a non AAP center. |
I know, that was one of the main reasons we didn't initially look there because I didn't want to put my children in before and after school SACC. |
| The late start is a real pain. The PTA needs to make some noise about getting the time moved back. |
Do you know if there is a long waiting list for their morning SACC? |
There is, but many of the local daycares provide morning care and shuttle the kids. I send mine to the Burke Center Kindercare. They run a shuttle to Laurel Ridge and he gets a second breakfast. It's essentially an expensive uber, but we make it work. Older kids on my block seem to just walk to school with friends and getting themselves out the door starting around the 4th or 5th grade. It's very '80's around here. The nice thing is that we're walkers to Robinson. I like that after the before care/after care years, the kids can walk to school. It'll make sports/activities easier to manage. |
This the reason we want to move to Laurel Ridge and Robinson. what neighborhood do you live at? |
They’ve tried petitions, etc. The push to make later start times for high school caused many elementary schools to get pushed even later to accommodate buses. |
We are in Kings Park West. Right by Laurel Ridge and Robinson. |
| Agree with all that's said here. Love the school/neighborhood after living in multiple other NOVA locations. |
| If it's such a family friendly area with tons of kids, why are the swim and dive teams not rated very well? No one into swim and dive down there? |
